Living Room

"Where does the smoke go....?"

The living room was originally two rooms, but was knocked through in 1920 to create a large open space which is the heart of the house.  The emphasis in the room is on comfort, with sofas, armchairs, books and games making it a great room to relax in.  With a real open fire and 'spinning' window above it, so called because a window in place of a chimney-breast gives direct light to sew and spin, there is space to seat large numbers. At the other end of the room there is more seating around the beautiful Westmorland Slate coffee table and a cupboard full of games, jigsaws and all forms of entertainment.

There are french windows in the centre of the room that lead straight out onto the upper lawn.

"Comfortable, spacious, and with that extraordinary window right above the open fire. "
