How to find Broad How
Zoom in and out for detail

From the South

Coming from the South, the most direct route is to leave the M6 at Exit 36 and take the A591, signposted to Windermere (by-passing Kendal)

Follow the road through the edge of Windermere until mini-roundabout (about half a mile beyond the station) and take A592, signposted to Ullswater (3rd exit). Once you are over the Kirkstone Pass the road skirts Brotherswater (too small for the map opposite) & 2 miles further on you reach Patterdale.

Drive past the 'Patterdale' sign and the Youth Hostel and (just as the White Lion comes into view) turn right over the river (Goldrill) on a left hand bend. Broad How is the first house on the left.

Coming from the North [or as an alternative route from the South -  if the Kirkstone Pass is closed in extreme weather conditions] leave the M6 at Exit 40 (Penrith). From the roundabout take the A66 towards Keswick, initially, and at the next roundabout (by Rheged) take the A592, signposted to Ullswater.

The road follows the length of the lake (about 8 miles) passing eventually through Glennridding & then, a mile later, reaching the Patterdale hotel. 50 yards after the narrowing of the road (by the White Lion) turn left over the river (Goldrill) on a right hand bend. If you reach the Youth Hostel you have missed the turn.
